I have no idea who, if anyone, is going to be indicted over the Valerie Plame leak, but the rumors are flying in Washington. The latest has Cheney resigning and Condoleezza being appointed Vice President.

Look, if anyone of any importance in the White House is indicted it is bad news and that person needs to resign. Yes, even if those accused in this country are innocent until proven guilty; a higher standard is called for here. On the other hand, resigning is not an admission of guilt.

The problem with the "who is getting indicted" game is that if for some reason Patrick Fitzgerald doesn't name Karl Rove, Scooter Libby, or Dick Cheney, then it will appear that they "got off" because all three have already been indicted by the court of public opinion. Even without an indictment, many on the Left will still call for resignations.

As this story has been evolving I have avoided writing about it because so much press coverage was based on rumor and innuendo but we are getting to the point now where Fitzgerald is going to have to do something by October 28th, when the grand jury disbands. More to come...
